Scaffolding down

Rock wall going up

Ipe

ipe (pronounced e-pay), the extremely dense Brazilian hardwood, was installed around the edges of the roofline over the weekend. The 22' boards are really heavy, fortunately the scaffolding was still up, can't imagine how it could have been hoisted up without it.

A Great Dane, a goat and a three-legged retriever

Judy & Minelli
I stopped by a vet clinic today (not our usual) and met Minelli, a pet goat. I quickly learned the heart-warming story of Minelli, Judy the Great Dane and Lucky, the 3 legged retriever. There are hundreds of people who have expressed interest in adopting the whole crew. Good thing livestock aren't allowed as pets within Dallas county, or I think they could have had a home on Wyatt Circle.

Back view of house - ready for stucco.

Bookmark and Share
Progress as of 8/19/10 - could be ready by December 1!?
It took a lot of samples to get here, but we're really pleased with the brick and grout choice, and the quality work Jorge is doing on the brick.

Progress

Brick

Brick work is underway, here's the very big truck that dropped off the very small load. Driver got extra credit for navigating the circle with ease.

Taco 'bout good news!

Sorry for the pun, but our favorite taco gals at Good 2Go Tacos just announced they are moving to a new, bigger spot just a few blocks from Wyatt. They were recently featured on the Food Network show "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" and business is booming. If you've never had a taco stuffed with chicken, waffles and sweet potatoes (aka - the Hotlanta) you need to check out the creative and delicious fare they dish up.

Wyatt 6-10-2010

We'll post new images as things change. This is how the house looks today: framed. roofed, plumbed, electrical in the works. Brick & stone...???

Brick Selection?

OK, neither of these look anything like what we thought they would. We may have another brick crisis on our hands.

Protecto Sill Sealer

Here is an article explaining the effects of having a good seal between the your homes foundation and the sill plate.  I think we are going to be happy we chose to go in his direction.

Protecto Premium Energy Sill Sealer
®
The only Self-Adhesive Air and Moisture Sill Barrier. PATENTED

Known as a major cause of energy loss and water infiltration in residential and commercial construction, the voids and
irregularities between the top of the concrete foundation and sill plates leak.  These leaks are a major cause of costly
callbacks for builders across the nation.
Protecto Premium Energy Sill Sealer
®
combines a full 3/8" closed cell polyethylene foam with an aggressive self
adhesive waterproofing membrane that conforms and seals off the voids and irregularies between the top of the
foundation and sill plate.
Concrete shrinks as it cures creating a rough and uneven surface on the top of the foundation wall.  Building codes
require a sill sealer to be placed between the top of the foundation and the sill plate.  Conventional sill sealers do not
have the thickness or the self-adhesive characteristics of Protecto Premium Energy Sill Sealer
®
to give them the abil-
ity to conform or seal up theses irregularities leaving a tremendous amount of voids.  These voids have long been rec-
ognized as one of the leading causes of basement water leaks, insect/rodent infiltration and a major area for heat and
air conditioning loss.

This unique and patented design combines the peel and stick waterproofing characteristics of Protecto Wrap
Company’s waterproofing membrane with a 3/8" thick closed cell foam sill sealer forming a gasket seal to
virtually eliminate any air, moisture and insect/rodent infiltration beneath the sill plate.

Protecto Premium Energy Sill Sealer
®
ADVANTAGES:
•   The adhesive bottom ofProtecto Premium Energy Sill Sealer
®
conforms and seals to the unven top of the
foundation wall.

•   Helps eliminate costly call backs for builders due to leaks.
•   By sealing off the cold joint between the top of the foundation and the sill plate, Protecto Premium EnergySill
Sealer
®
helps keep floors warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
•   A full 3/8"closed cell foam provides 11/2times more protection from energy loss over standard 1/4" sill sealers
used by builders today.
•   Exceeds all local, state and national building codes.
•   Self adhering for easy and precise placement.
•   Mildew and water resistant – will help prevent sill plate rot.

Here is a pic taken by good friend Chip.  Looks as though we have another photographer on site.

It's Ms. Sarah standing by the kitchen sink.

Looks as though we have the 2nd story rafters in place.
A lot was accomplished in the past 2 weeks during the framing portion.

First Day of Excavation is complete

Here are a few pics from the first day of digging.

All the pool excavation was completed in one day - rock and all.  They were able to set the boarders for the pool as well.

The white mound behind the pool is the rock that came from the pool excavation.  They were able to build that area up for us so that later on, we can poor the concrete deck off the pool as well a grassy area for Ms. Maya (and Jack).

The first dig on Wyatt

Finally, some activity on our property! Summerhill Pools started construction on the pool last week, cracking through the white rock and digging the hole that will be the pool. Because of the placement on the lot, the pool is the initial project to get started. Next week - the foundation!

Long Time - No Posts

Lots going on in the background, most of it dealing with $$$. Making lots of final decisions and the construction drawings will be finished this week. We should be making some visual progress really soon!

Meanwhile, here's what the recent, once-in-a-lifetime snowstorm in Dallas looked like on Wyatt.
